Live Acoustic Recording For BlowUpRadio.com

This acoustic version of The Smashing Pumkins song “Mayonaise” is one track from this year’s Banding Together Webathon at BlowUpRadio.com.  The two weekend event features live performances from over 60 bands as a Benefit For The Spondylitis Association of America.  Three Rabbits has been contributing to this outstanding benefit for 5 years now, and it’s an exceptional event that everyone should know about.  Banding Together runs during the month of October so be sure to look for it next year.

This track is taken from a 30 minute set of 8 tunes recorded live by members of Little Dipper.  It is a bare bones live stereo recording taken in their rehearsal space, and it captures a rare acoustic performance by the band.  Three Rabbits was tasked with editing the set so that it would fit the specific format as well as the running time for the Webathon.

L’N’L Halloween Compilation Tracks

We here at Three Rabbits have recorded two tracks for the recent Lump’N’Loaf Records Halloween compilation “Happy Freakin’ Halloween Vol. 1”.  This compilation features 11 various covers and original songs from L’N’L artists that embody the spirit of Halloween.  This release is truly a unique collection, and we hope that it won’t be the last of it’s kind.  You can find out more and hear the rest of the songs by visiting Lumpnloaf.com.

The first song is a cover of the classic title track Black Sabbath performed by Little Dipper.  The song was recorded by the band as a tribute to the masters of metal and all things frightening.  Being rather true to the original, Little Dipper’s version provides eye opening insight into just how creepy the song was when it was first heard almost 50 years ago.  We employed a lot of the recording techniques from the 60’s in an effort to get that particular feeling across to the listener.

Bella Legosi’s Dead is a cover of the first single from English post-punk band Bauhaus performed by none other than Young Jerks.  The track is a perfect Halloween themed selection, and it allowed the band to stretch out and explore some of their electronic music influences.  We are posting a slightly shorter version of the track here, but you can hear the extended version at Lumpnloaf.com.

Little Dipper – The Last Broadcast

The Last Broadcast is the second full-length album from Little Dipper.  It features 11 songs recorded, mixed, and mastered here at Three Rabbits with additional tracks recorded at Fish On Fire Recordings.  It is the first full-length recording we’ve completed, and our largest project to date.  All of the rhythm tracks as well as a handful of guitar and vocal tracks were done on location at Little Dipper’s rehearsal space.  The bulk of the guitar and vocal tracks were then finished at Three Rabbits along with the final mix and mastering.

The band wanted to focus on a raw sound to match the grittier songs on the release.  What we ended up with is a record that sounds like Little Dipper when you hear them live.  The rhythm section is driving.  It’s grinding and downright nasty in places, but there is also a subtlety to some of the tracks.  There are some smooth vocal melodies with unique topics and introspective lyrics.  As expected, there are plenty of scratchy guitars.  It sounds a bit different from their first release, but it is unmistakeably Little Dipper.

The sessions started with 18 tracks for consideration, but for several reasons, 7 tracks were omitted at various stages of the project.  Don’t be surprised if they turn up somewhere.  For more information or to get a copy of the album, go to LittleDipper.us.

Little Dipper – Two Song Promotional

The two song promotional cd includes tracks from the upcoming Little Dipper Release “The Last Broadcast”.  Although it is intended for promotional use only, one-hundred cds were pressed, and a free copy will be given to anyone who attends the special black friday show at Roxy’n’Dukes featuring Little Dipper and The 39.  Unfortunately that will be your only chance to get a copy since the songs will be remastered for the full length release.  Don’t worry.  We expect the entire album to be available very soon.

Young Jerks – Christmas Time Is Here

[cincopa A8GAEdrB-vZj]

This song was recorded for the Lump’N’Loaf Records compilation Happy Freakin’ Holidays volume 5.  The New Jersey based label houses some great bands, and it’s worth the time to take a look at their site.  The entire compilation can be downloaded from there.  The track was recorded and mixed here at Three Rabbits, and the compilation was mastered by Anthony Kroposky at Fish On Fire Recordings.

This is the very first track recorded by Young Jerks.  When presented with the opportunity to record a holiday song, the Jerks wanted to select something that not only reminded  them of the holidays, but worked well with their somewhat unusual sound.  They also had a very short time table to complete it.  After some tinkering, they settled on the classic Charlie Brown Christmas music by Vince Guaraldi.  It’s a bit of a departure from the original, but the simple melody and complex harmonic structure are still there.  Happy Freakin’ Holidays!

Little Dipper Music Video – Armor

This video was the first project finished at Three Rabbits, and it was catalyst for it’s development.  The music was recorded at Fish On Fire Recordings and mixed by Charlie Park at Suburban Soul Studios.  Ultimately the tracks from those sessions were scrapped, and a new version of Armor was recorded for the Little Dipper release The Last Broadcast.

The video, recorded at the band’s rehearsal space,  was intended to provide the viewer with a glimpse behind the scenes.  Each member took turns filming while the others played.  The captured video was then taken to Three Rabbits to be edited and synced where an hour of footage was whittled down to two minutes and forty-seven seconds.
